Yesterday I bought this very good book about AJAX called “Bulletproof AJAX”.
If you are a web developer and want to be a AJAX expert I strongly recommend you this book. It coves JavaScript, the DOM (Document Object Model), Data Formats (XML, JSON and HTML), CSS, Accessibility, AJAX Frameworks and browser issues. The ISBN-13 of the book is 978-0-321-47266-3. This 200 page book cuts the crap and tells you exactly what you need to know - who needs the 600 page “Professional AJAX” book from Wrox afterall?
Check out this nice review at O’Reilly:
This one is a breath of fresh air into the verbosity of the others ajax books. Keith keep the topics clear as they must be. I also found this book a valuable fast-reference for the DOM scripting. If you want a book to quickly understand tha ajax core-technologies, well, this is it!
And another one, also at O’Reilly:
“Bulletproof Ajax” is an indispensable resource for any front-end web designer, developer, or interaction designer who is involved or is planning on being involved in a project that includes Ajax techniques. Whether working on an in-house team or as an independent consultant, you’ll need to understand the pros and cons of using this popular and somewhat controversial method of serving web pages.
Trust me, buy this book and you won’t regret it. You can get it at Amazon for only 23 dollars.
I just did the math and damn… I’ve paid $40 for this book at a local store, with Amazon I would have saved almost 20 bucks. I guess I’ll buy everything at Amazon from now on.
Ports included?
“Price: $23.09 & eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25.”
Valid for US addresses only.
At least you got it faster this way.
The shipping rates for European countries is $4,49 per shipment plus $4,49 per item (books) and it can take 3 to 12 weeks to arrive. You would’ve paid around $32. And if you buy a used book book from a reseller the shipping rate is $12. Sometimes these prices are so close to the ones in local bookstores that it’s just not worth the waiting. The only way you would really save money is if you order several books at the same time because you only pay the shipment rate once (IF you choose to receive the books in a single shipment). Too many “ifs” for my taste, but Amazon.com has amazing Web Design books that you wouldn’t usually find in our local bookstores, so it’s a very good resource.
