Live Free or Die Hard

Yesterday, after taking a ride in the roller coaster of the Colombo mall (in Lisbon), I went to the cinema to watch “Live Free or Die Hard”.

Live Free or Die Hard

I’ve never seen any of the previous Die Hard movies, but I can tell you that this last one is really cool: full of great special effects, with Bruce Willis as John McClane in his best shape, blowing up a helicopter with a car and a F-35 with a truck. Justin Long (you might know him as “Mac” from the Get a Mac ads) plays as Matt Farrell, a computer hacker who helps (without his knowledge) a Internet-based terrorist organization to attack the United States infrastructure in order to shut down the entire nation.

But you can also expect some funny moments in this movie from Matt Farrell (obviously!) and John McClane, a computer illiterate person.

Some paranoid people like Rob Rosenberger think this movie will trigger a rush of cyberterrorism attacks to the US government and cause a cybergeddon, but I don’t buy it - the good always prevails.

If you have 5 bucks, spend them well and go watch this movie.

Gordon Lyon (aka Fyodor), the creator of Nmap - the free security scanner - claims he as seen some frames of his software in this movie (like what happened with “The Matrix Reloaded” [1] [2]) the first one to send him a clear snapshot “will be a hero” according to him. ;)

I’ve manage to capture the following screenshots: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] from “Live Free or Die Hard”. I’m not sure if these are the screenshots Fyodor was after for, but it seems like a SSH connection. Also, if you notice the host (202.218.154.52) is alive and has the following open ports: 21, 80, 443, 110, 25 - no 22 though.

Justin Long uses a Mac in this movie, check out the screenshots: [6] [7].

And 202.218.154.52:80 carries a Japanese page (osaka-itkaikei.co.jp, Osaka IT Accounting Technical School or so).

It may be a Mac screen, but I doubt the computer is a mac.

    @ Anthony

The screen has a Apple logo in there, I’ve never seen the inside of a Mac but maybe it’s a new unreleased model. The same thing happened with the movie The Island, all those gadgets like Microsoft Vision and Surface that seemed to be far from being real are now on sale.

    @ Th3_Rav3N

Who said that Macs can’t run Linux? :P

With the new Blu-Ray of Die Hard, you can read the left-most window on Justin Long’s screen in one shot.

At the top of the window you can see a reference to “Sectools.Org.” Feel free to look at the site.

Indeed, it does also say “Nmap 4″ on one line. That’s followed by an nmap dump, though I didn’t look at it very long.
