O Tempo

I was looking for poetry books, and I found this really old one Portuguese book called “O Tenue” lying around on the bookshelf. It is very old, it was printed in 1902 in Lisbon and the author is Manuel dos Santos Marques.

O Tenue - O Tempo

Here is a nice poem (sorry, only old Portuguese):

O Tempo

Acho o tempo similhante
A uma fonte inexgottavel
Para os homens diligentes,
Um thesouro incomparavel;

As aguas que vão correndo,
Pois quem não aproveitou,
Não póde recuperar
O tempo que já passou.

Contador, marcando os dias
Que todo o vivente dura;
Coveiro que vae abrindo,
Noite e dia a sepultura.

Que ha de a victima engulir,
Pela vida regeitada,
Dando assim sustento aos vermes,
Até reduzil-a ao nada.

Leiria, novembro de 1900

    I think its a great poem for those who understand Portuguese =)
    One of those “dusty” things with meaning.
    Also cool its the year it was written, words were a bit different and had different rules. :)
    I like this kind of “look what I found” moments. ^^

    Yeah, this kind of stuff is very cool.

    I also have “Os Lusíadas” edition dated of the XVII century. Maybe I’ll submit it to the Google Print / Books program.
